As an American Sign Language teacher, I've had the privilege to be an instructor within K-12 education and at the collegiate level. Here is an example of an introductory lesson for high school students who are learning ASL in a classroom setting.
As an educational interpreter, I hold qualifications necessary to interpret for K-12 students in the state of Idaho. Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment: 3.5 score PSE and passing score for Written Exam.
In addition, I hold licensure, SIGNP - 5975, in the State of Idaho for community interpreting.
While working as an Adjunct Instructor for Idaho State University, I co-authored an article for the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and Gallaudet University's Odyssey magazine. The article "Educational Interpreters: Meeting the Communication Needs of Children with Cochlear Implants" was published in 2012.
At Bloom Advocacy, we believe that education is the key to unlocking human potential. We strive to create a learning environment that is inclusive, collaborative, and supportive. We recognize that every individual has unique talents and strengths, and we aim to help our students discover and develop their full potential.
My approach to teaching and learning matters. To that end, I strive to set high expectations, guided with consistency, and encourage my students/clients to become life-long learners who are not afraid to make mistakes. The mark of our character is defined by what we do when no one is looking and how we pick ourselves up after we fall. I strive to create an environment where individuals are free to be creative, try new things without the fear of ridicule, a place where there is joy and laughter. Learning should be active and I strive to establish a culture of kindness which supports individuals in their learning journey. With keeping a positive alignment, everyone is motivated to be positive with each other and themselves. Each client is unique and in order to thrive, there must be in an environment where they can grow mentally, emotionally and socially. As an educator and advocate, I will provide a setting where you feel comfortable sharing ideas and asking questions that will benefit you. I will also provide content that is engaging, provide hands-on activities that promote educational growth, cooperative learning, which establishes trust and support that is applicable to your family and/or organizational needs.
